Kom people celebrate culture through royal dance
The
esplanade of the fon’s palace at Laikom on Saturday 3rd January 2015
became too small to contain the over 1500 Kom sons and daughters from all
triangles of Cameroon and even those out of the country who returned home not
only for the annual home coming of Njongsi-kom that has been taking place for
the last six years but also for the royal dance, a move aimed at reviving the fon’s
annual dance which has been abandoned for over 20 years now.It was a rare
moment of communion between the paramount traditional ruler of the kom fondom,
Fon Vincent Yuh II and his subjects.
The fon’s
message on the occasion delivered by Hon. Ndim Albert Waingeh hinged on the
promotion of culture, love for fondom and peace. He reminded the Kom people
that strangers will not come from outcome from outside to build their land and
therefore stressed on the need for more consciousness of all kom indgenes
towards supporting development back at home especially projects that have been
earmarked for execution at the palace.
The fon
said the newly created GSS Fujua-Laikom is the newest born of the palace and
appealed for more support to improve the infrastructural situation of the institution.
He thanked God for the peace that reigned in his fondom in 2014, and requested
his subjects to have open hearts so that God can lead them successfully through
2015.
The spokesperson for the njong kom cultural
group, Jua Mathew thanked the fon for the initiative he took six years back to
revive the Njong units and even create more as a means of projecting the kom
cultural values. He said the fondom today counts 76 njong units in and out of
kom.
Another speaker at the event was Mayor
Denis Awoh Ndang of the Fundong council who also doubles as secretary of the
kom royal supreme council. He assured each and every one that all the finances
contributed for projects in kom will be managed with a lot of accountability
and transparency. This because huge sums of money have been contributed by
komrades in the past but has ended up in people’s pockets.
This
njong unit is one of the oldest and most renowned among all the 76 njongsi-kom
that exist in the kom fondom. According to its Bo Njong, Fujua Tim Calistus
they have done much in promoting the kom culture. He regretted the fact the
other tribes that do not do not mesure up to the kom fondom organise annual
dances that are crowd pullers which has not been the case for over 20 years now
in the fondom. He however said with the move to relaunch the fon”s annual dance
it will project the image and culture of the kom people.
He
was also thankful for the rule of fon Vincent Yuh II whom he said through his
wisdom, there is peace in the fondom.
