Fundong Principal Prison Inmates challenged to pay attention to their health



Inmates of the Fundong Principal Prison have been told to pay greater attention to body hygiene as a measure to guarantee good health.
Honourine Bongjuh, nurse at the Fundong District Hospital made the call Tuesday 23rd January 2014 at the esplanade of the prison during and event to mark the close of a month long socio-cultural activities at the prison. She educated the prisoners on the need for them to wash their dresses and take a bath on daily basis, as this will help fight a number of diseases. She said if most inmates contract diseases, it is due on a greater part to negligence. She also used the event to educate the inmates on the prevention of diseases like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis
Justice Paul Fonge 3rd President to the Boyo High court told the prisoners that being in a fenced environment does not mean that they are condemned human beings. He advised them to live lives that will ensure their social reintegration once they are out of prison. He also cautioned them against jail breaks.“This will go a long way to increase your prison sentence making you to have no hope for the future”.
Prison superintendent Forkum Kilitunu Fornachu expressed satisfaction with the variety of talents potrayed by the prisoners, saying such socio-cultural and sporting activities are meant to make the inmates feel belonged to the society. He appreciated the contributions of some denominations who are using the word of God to build the prisoners towards guaranteeing their social integration. He requested for support from individuals and groups to transform the lives of the prisoners.
Talking about the sanitation situation of  the Fundong [prison, Forkum KIlitunu said “we were recently given an award for as the cleaness prison in the North West which goes a long way to show that a lot is being done here to make sure the prisoners are in good health conditions.
The Fundong prison that went operational in July 2010 with 35 inmates transferred from the Bamenda central prison, today hosts 101 inmates 12 of whom are awaiting trial while 89 others are  serving varied prison sentences for different crimes.
The event was crowned with a football final for the 2014 Fundong prison champions league won by Real Madrid FC after beating Manchester United by 1-0. The competition was organised by Tagou Mbah Dhedin, chief of bureau for discipline at the prison.
