Education, Health are my priorities in Aduk- Gwain Chrysantus
The Minister of Secondary Education
recently honoured Mr. Gwain Chrysantus a son of Aduk village in the Fundong
municipality with an award recognising his numerous contributions to enhance
the educational needs of Government High School, GHS, Aduk. The event was the
inauguration of solar lamps provided to the school by this illustrious son of
Aduk worth some 4.5MFCFA last December 17, 2014.
North West Regional delegate of Secondary
education Sunjo George who was around to inaugurate the project on behalf of
the Minister showered praises on the benefactor whom he qualified as a philanthropist.
In a community with no electricity, the provision of the solar lamps to this
High school to ease work in the computer and science laboratories and more so
to assist teachers and students in their tasks could only be a welcomed
initiative.
As a matter of fact, the provision of solar
lamps to GHS Aduk was not the first project Mr. Gwain Chrysantus was realising
in the institution. In 2008, he funded the construction of three classrooms to
the tune of 27MFCFA, built low cost apartments in 2010 that encouraged teachers
to take up residence at Aduk, provided 20 bags of cement to plaster the
administrative block of the school, funded the construction of two toilet
blocks for teachers and students in 2011, provided tiles and an electronic
balance to the science laboratory worth 336.000FCFA.
This private- public sector partnership was
hailed in very high esteem by the Minister’s representative who encouraged
others to emulate the example towards fostering the education of young
Cameroonians. The regional delegate was also appreciative of the contributions
of partners like the Fundong council, Aduk Rural Development Association,
ADARD, PTAs and school management board. He appealed to all stakeholders,
administrators, parents and students in Boyo to take advantage and exploit to
its fullest, the platform of the partnership for development created by our
legislators and the state.
Sunjo George while appreciating teachers
for their professionalism and dedication to the noble profession of teaching,
challenged them to becommitted to the daunting and painstaking task of nation
building through the development of quality human resource and inspiring young
Cameroonians with the culture and values of honesty, hard work, assiduity,
regularity and the spirit of intellectual inquiry and invention. He has warned
teachers who upon posting, immediately start looking for transfer, saying
government will not hit to their leisurely desires but rather, they will have
to take from the civil service stringency.
The principal of the beneficiary
institution, Mr Ayuk Peter Manyu baptised the inauguration of the solar panels,
GHS Aduk Emergence in 2014. The 8 years institution created in August 2006 and
raised to a high school in 2009 today has an enrolment of 403 students with
outstanding performances in public examination. He however appealed to the
minister’s representative to look into the staffing situation of the school
with more teachers needed in many departments. His eight year stay at the helm
of GHS Aduk and his relentless services to the school and community has earned
Mr Ayuk Peter the traditional tittle “Awungu II”
Other speakers at event included the
Divisional Delegates of Secondary education for Boyo and Menchum Chumbom Elisabeth
Lem and Mr. Ben Yong J, the representatives of the mayor Fundong council and MP
Boyo who all spoke with one voice to support the good initiative, calling on
the school administration, parents andstudents to ensure sustainability of the
various projects realised in the school.
Aduk Integrated Health Centre benefit equipment
“Before a child goes to school, he/she must
be healthy and I could not only think about the school and forget the health
centre” This were the words of Mr Gwain Chrysantus who besides donating
equipment and funding constructions of classrooms at GHS Aduk has donated
equipment to Aduk Integrated Health Centre to the tune of 1.5FCFA. The
equipment comprised of 20 matresses, 20 bed sheets, 25 blankets, ten buckets, a
carton of soap and vasline. He had also allocated money for drugs to be
purchased for the less privileged patients and assisted in the payment of staff
at the health centre.
The donor encouraged more especially
pregnant women and student to use the services of the health centre as it is up
to date to take care of their health needs.
According to the chief of the health centre
Yoah Ernest Ju, the AIHC is serving a population of 7706 inhabitants
representing 50.4% of the health area’s total population most of whom are
students.
Dr Shu Walters District Medical Officer for
the Fundong health district said these actions by Mr Gwain Chrysantus were
efforts towards contributing to the realisation of the millennium development
goals and cautioned the population to make good use of the equipment and
services of the centre. The Abassakom Area Development Union, ABADU, Bamenda
branch supported the gesture of the benefactor with a drum to be used for water
storage in the hospital.
Aduk
Integrated Health Centre has a bed capacity of 25 but only 20 are fully
functional at moment.
