Bamenda City council annouces first ever cultural trade fair
The Bamenda City Council in partnership
with the Ministry of Arts and culture
has announced the first ever cultural trade fair to take place in the
city of Bamenda from the 7th_ 21st Of February at the Bamenda Municipal stadium with the
theme- the contribution of the youth, culture and heritage to an emerging
Cameroon. The cultural trade fair to be organized in the city of Bamenda for
the first time has as objective to brand Bamenda as a heritage city, celebrate
the cultural specificities of the seven divisions of the North west Region,
expose the socio-cultural way of life of the entire North west Region and to
celebrate the birth of a new cultural heritage industry for the north west
Region. The cultural trade fair will manifest its self through cultural dances
of traditional patrimony, traditional dresses that tell the story of the people
of Bamenda, songs of customs and traditions: incantations, dirges, birth
celebrations, choral displays, culinary arts and guided tours to heritage sites
like museums and tourist sites.
According to Jude Waindim, public relations
officer of the Bamenda City Council, a cultural village shall be constructed in
the form of one giant museum, constructed following a typical North west
traditional architectural design, shall be erected for the displays of
artifacts from the various divisions of the region and beyond with a central
podium for all cultural exhibitions. The cultural village as well as the
central podium for thematic displays shall stand distinct and away from other
trade fair stands which shall be erected for divers’ trade and fair themes.
Some of the guest at the trade fair will be the Prime Minister Philemon Yang
and minister of Arts and Culture Amatutu Muna as well as related dignitaries.
