SENATOR HONORE AND IDPs |
Some
30 families who have fled the war in Boyo division and are taking refuge in Bamenda
have received assistance from Senator Honore Ngam. This was Thursday, may 16
.The IDPs received material assistance in the form of basic food stuffs like
rice, groundnut oil, tablets of soap and others.
Addressing his mothers ,fathers ,sisters and brothers who
have now become internally displaced in Bamenda, senator Honore reassured them
that though the night may be long, the misery they now face shall one day come
to passed ”no matter how difficult and long this will be, peace will soon
return” he said. It was also an opportunity for some 4 selected beneficiaries
who had expressed the need to have startup capital for a small business in
Bamenda to receive envelopes with cash amounts ranging from FCFA 50.000-35.000.
Brenda one of the beneficiaries who received startup capital said she is
hosting 5 IDPs in her house added to her twin children and the money will enable
her to set up a fish roasting business to help reduce the cost of leaving in
her home.
Describing the meeting as his first acquaintance
meeting with his kin and kindred since his election, senator Honore saluted the
initiatives of others like that of the queen mother of kom and others who have
all made an effort to make the man or woman displaced from kom and are resident
in Bamenda to be comfortable.
Commenting on what an elective senator like himself
can do at this time of the crisis, Senator Honore said he has been personally
making proposals to government that can help deescalate the current situation and
he has been making strides in bring solace to the afflicted especially those
from Boyo division.
Accompanying the senator was the president of kom
community in Bamenda, Mr Richard Ngam, the mayor for Belo, Tefu Emmanuel
Awosang, Yong Jacque and a host of friends. The mayor for Belo, Tefu Emmanuel
Awosang speaking at the event, called for unity amongst the kom people home and
out of home, called on the senator to look at Boyo beyond party politics,
describing senator Honore Ngam as a senator with a difference given his down to
earth humility adding that Belo should be given special attention given the carnage
that had taken place in Belo.
This moment of communion between the senator and his
Boyo people coincided with Senator Honore Ngams birthday and to many of the
IDPs who showed up, it’s still a surprising thing that the senator will give up
all celebrations and cake cutting just to condescend that low to break bread
with the needy.
