NJINIKOM:COUNCILORS GIVE MAYOR TERENCE CHAH BAM ANOTHER PASS MARK
Councillors of Njinnikom council
have voted as satisfactory the administrative, management and stores accounts
of the Njinijkom council for 2015.This was march 31 during a council session
chaired by Terence Chah Bam, mayor of Njinikom council in the presence of the
supervisory authority represented by DO for Njinikom, Justine Bongtang.
Opening
the council session, Mayor Terence Chah Bam announced that the council in 2015
collected over CFA 281 million as revenue and spend over 227 million as council
expenditure leaving a balance of 54 million carried forward to 2016.To the
mayor, projects like construction of class rooms, rehabilitation of health
centres, construction of sheds and bridges, opening of roads, provision of
benches, rehabilitation of electricity in Yang and the opening of the road to
Mbueni through Jemchi as landmark realisations of the council in the past year.
It was also
an opportunity for the mayor to break the news to councillors that the council
will soon be moving from category 4 to 3 given the constant move of council
accounts from 171 million to 281 million.” Njinikom council was amongst the
last councils placed on category 4 as our accounts were below 250million.with
the current improvements in our administrative accounts from the revenue we
were able to collect and donations from donors, it enabled us to raise our
budget and our accounts have also moved from 171million to 281 million.im
positive that with impending revenue generating projects which we are still
lobbying like the construction of markets shed to cover the whole of the area
above Jua Memorial college and more sheds in Kikfini, we will hit 300million
will completely put us on category 3”the mayor said.
According
to Lawrence Nkain Yong, chairman of the finance committee, the movement in
category will serve as a positive pointer for the council and stakeholders”
councillors will have their sitting allowances, transport, mission allowance
increased and placing the council in a better position to source for bigger
loans from FEICOM to boost development in the councils, I use to hear of
deficits in this council. Now there has been a three year history of consistent
positive balance from one year to the other thanks to the present mayor, adding
that as chair of the finance committee, he shall dig deep into the arbitrary
auctioning of the council property sanctioned by his committee but the process
was not backed by a council deliberation as stipulated by law.
Other issues that
predominated the session was the issue of projects abandonment. Projects like
the rehabilitation and lateliting of the road linking the Njinikom roundabout
to the st Martin De pores hospital, the town hall almost completed without the
extension as stipulated in the contract and the to be tarring of the hospital
road which could be a far fetch dream if the current works on the road are not hastened.
The council session failed to deliberate on the issue of the council buying a
vehicle for the council, but rather enjoin the municipal magistrate to continue
sacrificing for the growth of the municipality by serving the council with his
private car as he has been doing in the past three years. “I remain a satisfied
mayor. I came to the council to serve the people. I have been using my vehicles
to serve the municipality. I did not come to cultivate personal wealth in the council.
I cannot decide now to take a loan to buy a luxurious car for the council when
the resources are not there.it will not make sense, it will not develop
njinikom.it will rather drains it. The living conditions of the people must be
alleviated “said the mayor
