WHY SDF MIGHT DIE IN BOYO
An invisible wave of
political maturity appears to be sweeping through Boyo Division, one time Oasis
of the Social Democratic Front, SDF in the North West Region. This was seen in
the last September 2013 municipal and legislative elections and even the
pioneer senatorial elections. Like a defeated entity, the S.D.F lost its
biggest hub, the Fundongcouncil to the Cameroon Peoples democratic Movement, C.P.D.M.adding
to Bum sub division that had long backed out from what critics say is parasitic
militancy in the S.D.F.Njinikom was saved from the last wave of change as they
decided to give a chance to the fresh breed mayor Chah Bam Terence though still
from the S.D.F after the near 25years of S.D.F militancyin the area has not paid
off.
FUNDONG: It is one of
the biggest subdivisions in Boyo and the chief town of Boyo Division .The last
municipal and legislative elections saw even the S.D.F chairman Ni john FruNdi
making frantic efforts and visits to fundong to save the party to no avail. He
even had a face off with his long time militants in the area who were largely
discontented with the decision of the Regional bureau to flush out their
illustrious son, Hon. James Ntam on two counts. First the party had decided to
give the female parliamentary seat to Belo that has been in the cold for long
and the Regional chair of the party,HonNjongEvarestus was too resourceful to the S.D.F to be ruledout.
He was whisked practically from his hitherto constituency of Njinikom-Belo to
now Njinikom-Fundong constituency, a party decision that was out rightly
rejected by the militants in Fundong. The provincial Chair had practically
mapped out ways to return to the glass house to the disadvantage of the party
in Fundong. In a crisis meeting that was chaired by the National chairman of the
S.D.F,the militants in fundong told the party chairman that if there was no
James Ntam, there was no S.D.F in Fundong.During the elections, just like a
joke, theparty lost the council to the C.P.D.M with Ndang Denis Awoh as Mayor.
BUM:Challenged by
poor communication and basic infrastructural facilities like roads, the Bum sub
division of Boyo had long looked up to the C.P.D.M at least to put their heads
above the water. With a CPDM runned council, Mayor Wanlo John who had been at
the helm of the CPDM council became one of the pioneer senators from Boyo on a
CPDM ticked. As the lone senator in the division now and from the CPDM
dominated sub division, there are no indications the S.D.F will be returning
soon in Bum.
NJINKOM:Known for its
parliamentary monopoly obtained always by hook or by cruck, From Hon.PaulinusJua
to Hon NjongEvarestus, the duo has always come from Njinikom and on S.D.F
tickets with Belo,Fundongand Bum left in the cold. During the last municipal elections,
the CPDM mounted a strong fight in njinikom second to none in history led by
the late senator Nkwainfrancis,Njong Eric and NgongChristopher. This attracted a
great chunk of the population to sympathize with the CPDM as the near 25years
of S.D.F domination in Njinikom appears to have registered underdevelopment,
destitution, lack of social amenities and the abandonment of some militants in
the corridors. The current MP has been described in his native Njinikom as an
absentee MP who has a selective myopia to the plight of the people,a specialist
in the purchase of jeeps and as the only MP who dishes out 100.000frs each to
development associations with little achievements to his credit as MP in the area.
The late Nkwain had reinforced the CPDM in Njinikom by ushering in heavy
weights like Njong Eric of BUNS sarl who campaigned together with the late Nkwain
for the CPDM and Ngong Christopher to counter the consolidation of the Muloin
area by Mayor Chah bam Terence.
BELO:known as S.D.F
landlords of Boyo division and one of the largest sub divisions of Boyo,Belo
under the stewardship of the old Foxe, Mayor Tosam Benard Nenghabi has saved
the face of the party for long .Through the mercy of ELECAM,Belo had a taste of
an MP in the last elections making the area the only green spot for the S.D.F
in the map of Boyo.Despite the almost 25yrs of the S.D.F militancy and
supremacy in Belo,it is feared it might lack political maturity to withstand
party competition when it knocks at the doors.
From
Bum through Fundong,Njinikom and to Belo,it could just be a journey of no
return for the CPDM which appears to have taken an oath to take the people of
Boyo to the inner circles of the ruling government where the booty is shared,a
situation best interpreted even by the paramount ruler of komin Njinikom on the
burial of senator Nkwain wherein he called for an immediate replacement of the
senator as his demise has disconnected him and the people of kom from the
government
