Hon. Njong takes parliamentary largess to the grassroots

Hon. NjongEvaristus, Member of Parliament for Boyo constituency has supported development endeavours in some eight communities in Njinikom subdivision to the tune of FCFA 2.3M. This follows a three days parliamentary tour that he undertook to the villages recently. The MP visited Iso, Yang, Tninifoinbi, Balikumato, Muloin, Kikfuini, Bobong and Asuchu to size up the development challenges of the population and boost their efforts.
Almost similar problems were presented to the parliamentarian at each of his stops; lack of portable water, electricity, health facilities, poor roads, insufficient infrastructure in schools and the need for farm inputs to increase agricultural productivity.
Hon. Njong who responded to the preoccupations with financial support for the various village prioritised projects said he would have done more but for the fact that what the government gives them as micro project grants become largely insufficient to take care of the numerous development needs of the population at the grassroots. , He stated that it becomes very difficult for him as the people’s representatives to distribute the FCFA 8M given him each year to take care of two subdivisions(Njinikom and Fundong) covering over 70 villages.
“This year we had a huge budget projection of over FCFA 3700 billion and we are not very comfortable that we came home with less than FCFA 1 billion for the whole division. Even if you are in my position you will understand that our development needs are just too many and FCFA 747M for the division is not enough for that. But I make sure that what I bring home as micro project money trickles down to the population nor matter how small it is” Hon. Njong said.
He said instead of government giving each parliamentarian that meagre sum, she could rather buy heavy duty equipment which will be used in opening up more roads as this will assist farmers in evacuating their farm produce. He used his tour to also appreciate what the council was doing at its own level to carry out some projects even with the very limited resources in order to help the population.
The MP used his tour to strongly condemn the activities of the terrorist sect Boko Haram calling on the population to be on the watch out. He told parents to take care of their children and to be aware of the type of things they do. “ We are also calling on government to engage more projects in favour of the youths to reduce the temptation of them being recruited as members of this terrorist group” he added.
Hon. Njong announced the second phase of his parliamentary tour in Njinikom and Fundong after the March session of parliament.
