DEEPENING BOYO IDP CRISIS: SENATOR HONORE NGAM SETS PACE, BOYO POLITICIANS SCRAMBLE

Politicians from Boyo division have seemingly risen from slumber and are now making frantic efforts to bail out the worsening conditions of some thousands of internally displace persons from Boyo division who have taken up temporal refuge in Bamenda, Yaoundé and other towns. The race to help the IDPs seems to have been fired by Senator Honore Ngam, who recently on may 16,grouped Boyo  IDPs in Bamenda-donating foodstuffs and financially empowering some to set up own businesses. On June 1st, the 4 mayors of Boyo, themselves IDPs resident in Yaoundé, donated accommodation utilities, foodstuffs and related consumables to the Yaoundé-Boyo IDPs.
In a release, published this morning, by Gawain Colbert, it stipulates that the honorable member of parliament for Boyo, Njong Evarestus shall today dish out  FCFA1million through quarter heads in Bamenda to help IDP

Press Release Hon Njong

Hon Njong Evaristus Empowers Kom Quarter Heads in Bamenda to Cater to the IDPs.

The Member of Parliament for Boyo constituency in the North West Region, Hon. Njong Evaristus, who doubles as Regional Chairman for the leading opposition party, SDF, has in his infinite wisdom decided to use one stone to shoot two birds in his effort to reach out to the numerous internally displaced persons of Boyo extraction. Rather than reaching out to the vulnerable internally displaced persons directly, the indefatigable parliamentarian has decided to federate efforts with the 18 newly elected and installed Kom Quarter Heads zoned throughout Bamenda City.

In opting to deliver the much-needed humanitarian assistance to the needy internally displaced persons who have been uprooted from their natural habitat due to the raging Anglophone conflict through the Kom Quarter Heads in Bamenda, Hon. Njong Evaristus demonstrates in truimphant detail the benefits of delegating power to local authorities and by extension, giving them the much needed visibility and relevance. It is also the Member of Parliament's understanding that those who stand a better chance of knowing and identifying vulnerable IDPs from Kom who need urgent assistance, are the Quarter Heads.

Since the Kom Quarter Heads are a product of the Kom Cultural and Development Association in Bamenda (KOMCUDA), with royal blessings from the Fon of Kom, the Hon. Parliamentarian has  chosen to hand over the package for the IDPs to the Quarter Heads during the KOMCUDA monthly meeting at Old Town this Sunday June 2, 2019. The Quarter Heads in turn are charged with the responsibility of carefully identifying the needy IDPs in their various quarters, distributing same to them.

The parliamentary package which amounts to 1000000FCFA is expected to put smiles on the faces of hundreds of displaced kom women, girls, men, boys and children who since took refuge in the city of Bamenda who now live lives shy of dignity and respect. It targets those who do not have access to any secure livelihoods.

Hon. Njong Evaristus' motivation to stage the event at the KOMCUDA hall in Old Town Bamenda is not only to commune with the larger Kom community where he would use the opportunity to brief them on his stewardship at the Yaounde Glass House but also to enable him assess the level of progress in the construction of a structure he has been supportive of since its inception so many years ago. Given that the Kom community in Bamenda also set today aside to fundraise for the completion of the community Hall, the Member of Parliament would also be making a separate contribution to the hall project.

Hon. Njong Evaristus' gesture is but a logical extension of what he has been doing since he was reelected into parliament in 2013. Soon after, he embarked on a visit of 17 of the 25 village-communities in Fundong Subdivision offering each a development assistance package of 500 000frs. The outbreak of the current conflict in 2016 did not only disrupt his tours of the other village-communities in Fundong and Njinikom but has now pushed him to come to the need to those displaced from those villages to Bamenda.

It should be recalled that Hon Njong Evaristus is not at his first effort at reaching out to the Internally Displaced Persons from Boyo. At the beginning of the year, he contributed 500000frs to the Gamti Boyo Initiative, a group of Kom sons and daughters that has been catering to the IDPs of Boyo extraction throughput Cameroon. His assistance has branched out to other areas, including the contribution of 500,000frs each towards the Kom palace project and the purchase of the Fon of Kom’s car among many other targeted efforts.
